Tendinopathy

Tendinopathy is a condition caused by overuse of, or injury to, a particular tendon, which results in pain, swelling, and difficulty moving. Common sites of tendinopathy include the knee, elbow (tennis or golfers’ elbow), and shoulder (rotator cuff).

Physiotherapy is the mainstay of tendinopathy management, promoting healing, alleviating pain, and restoring normal function. It involves a progressive loading program, with specific exercises that increase tendon strength, hands-on therapy, and daily activity modification to lessen the strain on the tendon while it heals.

By taking a comprehensive and personalised approach, physiotherapy can greatly improve the symptoms of tendinopathies, helping patients return to their regular work, sport, and activities without pain or limitation.
