Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that combines strengthening and stretching using the practitioner’s own bodyweight for resistance. Pilates has been shown to be beneficial in the rehabilitation of a variety of conditions including back pain, hip pain, and balance issues as well as maintaining and improving general strength and mobility. By working with just bodyweight Pilates offers a gentle but still effective alternative to heavy, high-impact, or equipment-dependent exercise and can be done alone or in group classes and at any ability level.

Since graduating university, Kath has trained as a clinical Pilates instructor and has incorporated the practice into her treatment for her patients, especially with those suffering with back pain. Pilates has the benefit of introducing movement and strength to the body in a way that is non-threatening and can be made easier or harder depending on the individual patient.
In addition, Kath runs a weekly Pilates-based group physiotherapy session for patients looking for long term maintenance or anyone looking for a convenient, low-impact exercise class. Classes are capped at eight participants meaning that exercises can be modified as needed and has a relaxed and social atmosphere. |
