What is physiotherapy, and how can it help me?
Physiotherapy focuses on restoring and maintaining movement and function. It uses a range of techniques, including manual therapy, exercise, and education, to treat pain, injuries, and physical conditions. Our goal is to reduce pain, improve mobility and function, and enhance quality of life.
What conditions do physiotherapists treat?
Physiotherapists can treat a wide variety of conditions, including sports injuries, joint and muscle pain, back and neck issues, arthritis, post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain, neurological conditions, osteoporosis, and other chronic conditions. Physiotherapy can reduce pain, increase mobility, help prevent injuries, support post-surgical recovery, and enhance overall physical health and wellness.
If you are unsure of whether we can help you, please reach out to us by calling our team on 4340 1648. We are more than happy to answer your questions and point you in the right direction for treatment.
What types of treatments do you offer?
We offer a wide variety of treatment modalities depending on your specific condition, needs and your preferences. These may include a combination of manual therapy, dry needling, therapeutic exercise and a tailored rehabilitation program.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
You do not need a referral from a doctor to make an appointment with us. Sometimes, however, GP’s or specialists will refer you to a physiotherapist if they feel you would benefit from our care.
Do you see Worker’s Compensation, NDIS, My Aged Care, Medicare (EPC/CDM), DVA, etc patients?
Yes! In addition to private patients, we see patients through a wide variety of schemes and plans. All of our physios are SIRA registered and able to treat Worker’s Compensation patients. We are also able to treat NDIS participants with funding for physiotherapy. As mentioned above, we are also able to see patients with referrals from GP’s via the EPC or CDM Medicare scheme. We have contracts with a number of Aged Care providers.
Please contact us if you are unsure or would like to discuss any of these schemes to make sure that we can help you.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
During your first visit, we will assess your condition, discuss your health history, and create a personalised treatment plan that may include a combination of exercise, manual therapy, and lifestyle advice tailored to your needs and goals. Subsequent sessions will follow a similar structure, where your physio will check in with you and your progress and provide the next steps in your treatment plan, as well as address any challenges you are facing with your treatment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
You usually do not need to bring anything to your first appointment. If you have a referral from your doctor, please bring this along for our admin team to process. Any imaging results or reports that are relevant to your condition are also helpful for our physiotherapists to help guide your assessment.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. If you’re coming in for a specific area, like a knee or shoulder, it is helpful to ensure that the area is accessible. You are welcome to bring a change of clothes if this is more comfortable.
How long is a typical physiotherapy session?
Typically, an initial session will last about 45 minutes and follow-up appointments last half an hour. For more complex conditions longer appointments are available up to an hour. You are welcome to discuss this with your physiotherapist if you feel that you require more time.
Will physiotherapy be painful?
Some techniques may cause some discomfort, especially when working on sore or injured areas but physiotherapy should not cause pain. If you experience pain or are uncomfortable at any time please let you physiotherapist know so that we can adjust our assessment and treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your condition, goals, and treatment plan. Some people feel better after just a few sessions, while others may need ongoing care especially when working on longer term rehab for specific goals.
How soon will I see results?
This varies case by case, but many people start to feel relief within the first few sessions. Your physiotherapist will discuss expected outcomes with you.
Will I need to do exercises at home?
While our aim is for you to feel better as you leave our clinic, home exercises are often a major part of the long term treatment plan to support your recovery and strengthen progress between sessions. Our goal is to guide you in managing your condition over the long term - a tailored home exercise program is often how we achieve this.
How much does physiotherapy cost?
The cost of physiotherapy depends on how you’re seeing us and which funding option applies to you.
• Private with no health fund: You simply pay our standard consultation fee on the day.
• Private with a health fund: If you have extras cover, your health fund usually pays part of the fee. The gap you pay will depend on your specific health fund and your level of cover. We are able to process the claim on the day so you’ll only be out of pocket the gap.
• Medicare (GP referral): With a Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP, Medicare can cover part of the cost for up to five physio sessions per year. We usually take the full payment upfront and then process the rebate on your behalf and the benefit is received back into your bank account within a few days.
• Workers Compensation / Motor Vehicle (CTP) claims: Once your claim is approved, sessions are generally billed directly to the insurer, so there’s usually no cost to you.
• NDIS: If you’re an NDIS participant, we can bill the NDIS directly if you’re plan- or agency-managed. If you’re self-managed, we’ll provide invoices so you can claim them back.
If you’d like a clear idea of what your out-of-pocket cost will be, please contact our reception team and let them know how you’re claiming — private, Medicare, Workers Comp, CTP, or NDIS—and they can give you the exact details.
If cost is an issue, please contact us as we may be able to work out an alternative for you.
